After starting on my own, I am meeting many interesting people, when I am going out and marketing MS academy services. When I say interesting people, I mean not only people who are successful in their career but people who see value in continuous learning.

Today when I met Mr.Chenthir Kumaran MD of Pharmexx India he summarized the passion for learning with a simple example and a quotable quote. Mr.Chenthir has personally attended training by Philip Kotler and Kenneth Blenchard.

He said, “A family barber has a special place in our culture. He is invited while celebrating birth of a child, for threading ceremony, for marriage and even death… The reason is he is a committed professional. He may have drinking problems. But he gets up early in the morning every day. He arrives at the saloon and organizes his tools, provides configured service for every customer in spite of the fact that most of them are repeat customers. He keeps a picture of God with agarbathi, english and tamil manazines and some posters of actresses also to cater to variety of customers. Even if he is illiterate he keeps up with world affairs to provide gossip to those who monger it. Such well rounded professionals are actually very successful. I know barbers who are even richer than actors.”

He concluded by saying “Efforts don’t directly give the results. When you plant efforts you cultivate good practices. When good practices are planted they groom character. When character is planted it automatically gives results.”

Initially I begin by offering 1 day 2 day workshops on the nuances in the art of management (people skills) and formulas in the science of management (tools from PMBoK) for team leaders / project leads. But with inputs from clients like Mr.Chenthir, I have packaged my offering into a longer term competency development program, where I am trying to make myself accountable for measureable improvement in management competency in the client organization.
